Quick Takes: Saturday Style

I realize quick takes are meant for Friday, but I was too busy knitting yesterday to take a break and blog.  So there are my Saturday style quick takes.

1. I spent 15 hours knitting my scarf this week.  That's way more time then I thought I would have to spend when I registered for a beginning class.  The good news is I think I finally understand it.  I was supposed to have 25 inches completed by class today.  I only had 20 inches, but I was the 2nd furthest along in my class today.  That is major progress from class last week when I was the worst.

2. I got pulled over yesterday.  It is a hilarious story that deserves a post all in itself (coming in the next few days).

3. Ree Drummond- as in The Pioneer Woman- is coming to an area near me next month.  I think I'm going to finally buy her cookbook that I've heard such good things about and take the hubs to the "big city" to see her and have her sign my book.  I'm so excited.

4. We picked up our fruit and veggie basket today and are stocked on fresh produce for the week.  For $15 we get 6 fruits and 6 vegetables from a co-op called Bountiful Baskets.  If any of you live in the West, check them out.  It is seriously such a great deal.  Here's a picture of what we got today:
In case you can't make it all out in the picture- 6 oranges, 2 pomelos, 9 bananas, 7 green apples, 1 container of strawberries, 1 cantelope, 2 bunches of broccoli, a head of califlower, 3 cucumbers, 1 huge bunch of Romaine lettuce, 9 Roma tomatoes, and 1 bunch of asparagus.  Seriously, for $15 it can't be beat.  You are guaranteed 6 different fruits and 6 different veggies each week.  You never know what you're going to get, but we've never been disappointed.  We've also ordered organic bread, tortillas, and granola as well.  The best part is not the price, however, it's the fact that we eat so much healthier when we buy a basket.

5. After the bombing in the Moscow airport this week, I've been reminded that we need to step up our prayers for our mission trip to Russia this summer.  That is the airport we'll be flying into, and while I'm not afraid of international travel, I've realized how I've lacked in praying for our team and trip.  We'll spend time in Moscow and St. Petersburg before heading to Siberia where we'll conduct a week-long training session and retreat for Russian pastors and their wives.  I just know God is going to do amazing things through us and in us.  But, it's time to fervantly pray and start raising funds!

6. I bought some pumpkin spice cups yesterday for our Keurig coffee maker that were on mega clearance, and the coffee is so good.  While fall and its flavors might be long over and out of season, I don't care one bit.  Clearanced coffee (and wine) items are a perk to living in an area where the dominant religion shuns drinks of that sort.

7. I'm thinking of opening an Ebay account to sell several new and gently used items I have piling up in our home.  Any suggestions or thoughts on that?

Finally, I'll leave you with a picture of my knitting progress from this morning before I went to class.  Notice the yarn is different?  I'll tell you all about that in a separate post as well as what God has been teaching me through knitting.  Man, I have a lot of posts I'm lining up for myself.  Here's my 20 inches before class.  Not too shabby for somone who just learned to knit 7 days ago, and all of the progress you see below happened in less than 5 days!

  1. I am not sure which part I am most jealous about, the knitting or the produce.

I have read about co-op produce deals, Real Simple magazine and Better HOmes always promotes them and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to pay for fresh organic seasonal produce, but living in Mississippi - it's not bound to happen :( Kroger just recently took out my weekly organic broccoli guhhhhhh.

I want to learn to knit insanely badly! My gma tried to teach me to crochet years ago, but my being left handed posed serious problems. I just told my bf that I want to take a class this summer.

    Enjoy that produce!

  2. Allie,

So you're not jealous of the being pulled over part? ha, ha. I'm sorry to hear you don't have co-op produce opportunities. I wonder if it just depends on the region? We were also part of one through a college student farm at our local unversity. Would that be an option for you? I guess you can always grow your own fresh veggies in the summer...

The basic knitting book I have gives directions for left-handed knitting, so it's not impossible. JBTC also recommended knittinghelp.com to me. I wonder if some of the tutorials might help, but it's better if you can take a class. Let me know if you do!
