More Snakes

Anyone have any good ideas on how to get rid of snakes?  I thought DH had them under control at the beginning of summer when he killed the momma and we didn't see any more the rest of the summer.  I guess we were wrong because today he saw one in the grass and one coming out of the corner of our cement patio!  He couldn't kill either of them, so we know we have at least 2 on the loose, but chances are there are more.

As a sidenote: he had let the grass get a little long because he was delaying the final mowing of the year.  We tend to see more snakes when the grass is longer, but I would think they'd be in hibernation because our temps have only been in the 60s during the day and 30s overnight.  I guess I'm wrong on that one as well.  I'm terrified to go in our basement because our crawl space and unfinished bedroom and bathroom are not far from where we've seen the snake sightings outside.  What can I do?  I'm starting to feel like I'm a prisoner in our own home.

Granted, they aren't huge snakes, but they are snakes.  The thought of snakes underneath our cement patio or near the foundation of our house freaks me out.  Can an exterminator take care of them?  DH agreed to thoroughly inspect our crawl space and seal any holes he sees, but still, this does little to allay my snake fears.  Snakes are the one creepy-crawly thing I can't stand.  Ugh!

Update: The snake coming out of the cement made 2 more appearances this afternoon and DH finally killed him the 3rd time he came out of the hole!  Now to plug that hole and check the crawl space to see what might be happening.  That's all DH's job, of course!

  1. Oh... ugh... this gives me the shivers. I'm sorry I don't have any advice. We had cave crickets for a while one summer that were driving me insane; DH finally figured out they were coming in from when our HVAC system was replaced outside and plugged the hole. We had a mouse about a year ago I think, and got those completed enclosed mouse traps. We got him during the day when DH was at work, so I had to dispose of the trap because I was afraid my piano students might walk in the kitchen and see it! Oh, I hope you can get rid of them soon!!!

  2. That sounds horrible. Lucky you have your DH to take care of it.
